The Final Climb. Also known as Alpe Cermis. Or: the pain cave

By January 6, 2013 No Comments

More coming in on this post very soon! But to start with, here’s a video Andy took today with a Go Pro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjmBkaY8t5o unfortunately the camera doesn’t do the slope justice as part of the hill was a 28% grade. But it’s a sweet look at the climb!

Today a lot of awesome things happened – Liz clocked the second fastest climb, Kikkan finished 12th overall, none of us died in the process and I finished the hardest race series I’ve ever done!

At the top of Alpe Cermis, I felt like I was going to throw up then pass out. After climbing for so long and going all out in the last stage of the Tour, I was way in the back of the pain cave! I heard from a bunch of people that Eurosport really zoned in on me in the finish pen, and I just wanted to let you know that I did live through it, even though I looked like I couldn’t breathe 🙂 But wow that was some serious OUCH going on!

But wait! The Tour doesn’t end here. Tonight I’m going to a night sprint (a show race) about an hour away and I’m doing a team sprint with Ida. Liz and Holly are teaming up as well, so the four of us have a long night ahead! The race starts at 8:30pm and it should be super fun. I’ll let you know how the second race of the day goes 🙂
