I struggled with an eating disorder when I was 18-19 years old. At that point, I believed I was worth nothing, and had no self-confidence. I didn’t think continuing my career in ski racing would be possible with my disorder, but I also didn’t know how to get healthy on my own. With the help of the Emily Program treatment center, I learned the skills to save my own life and became a healthy and confident person once again. I learned how to cope with stress and pressure, and those skills were essential in the lead up to the 2018 Olympics. The journey from being sick and taking it one day at a time in treatment to sprinting for the Gold Medal seemed absolutely impossible back then, which is why I have become a spokesperson for the Emily Program. I share my story to inspire those struggling with their own eating disorders to seek help and find a healthy life for themselves. I want to show that there is always hope, and that if you’re willing to do the hard work in asking for help, your goals are still within reach!
